Cultivation License

Obtaining a cannabis cultivation license from Health Canada can be difficult and confusing. There are many steps and requirements that need to be met in order to obtain a cannabis cultivation license. This process can be overwhelming and time consuming.

What You Need to Know

Prior to applying for a cultivation Licence, a potential Licensed producer should make sure they meet all the requirements under Cannabis Act and its regulations. (Refer to: Applying for Licence under the Cannabis Act and its regulations, what you need to know).

MFLRC will help you meet all the requirements for a cannabis cultivation license under the Cannabis Act and its regulations.

The cultivation licence class is further divided into

Three sub-classes.

Micro-cultivation

This will be the License if prospective grower is seeking to grow a smaller yield. Micro-cultivators are limited to growing within a small grow area (“canopy area”) of no more than 800 square meters. There physical security requirements differ from other sub-classes in this licence class.

Standard Cultivation

This will be the License if a prospective grower is seeking to grow a larger yield. Standard cultivators are not limited to growing within a definite grow area size. There physical security requirements is more stringent from all other sub-classes in this licence class.

Nursery License

Prospective growers interested in selling cannabis plant clones and seeds. License producer holding this License can produce cannabis plant clones and seeds for sale to other cultivators and processors for packaging and sale.

Nursery License allows to grow surface area up to 200 square meters for growing flowering and budding cannabis plants. Up to 20 kg of harvested flowering heads at any time.

This Licence class, i.e., Cultivation licence restricts the sale of cannabis products to provincial retail stores they are limited to sell their products to another Licensed producer only.
